Türkiye has announced that citizens of eight countries are now permitted to enter Turkish territory using expired passports, in a policy that sets those nationals apart from most of the world's travellers.

The information is officially available on the Turkish government's website, confirming the arrangement is a formal policy rather than a temporary measure.

What the policy means for travellers

For citizens of the listed countries, the arrangement offers a significant degree of flexibility, particularly for those whose passports have recently lapsed or who have not yet renewed their travel documents. Rather than being turned away at the border or forced to fast-track a renewal, nationals from these eight countries can still complete their journey to Türkiye without a valid passport.

Travellers from all other nations, including those across Africa, Asia, and the Americas, are not covered by this arrangement and must present valid travel documents when entering Türkiye.
