Türkiye has released an official list of 21 countries whose citizens are permitted to cross into the country using only their national identity cards, removing the need for a passport entirely.
The information comes directly from the Turkish government's official website, which states: "Countries whose citizens are allowed to enter Türkiye with their national IDs."

What the Türkiye national ID policy means
The majority of countries on the list are European Union member states, though several non-EU nations also feature, including Switzerland, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, and Azerbaijan. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which maintains close ties with Türkiye, is also included.
For citizens of these 21 nations, the policy simplifies travel considerably, as a valid national identity card is sufficient for entry without the additional requirement of obtaining or renewing a passport. Travellers from countries not on this list would still be required to present a valid passport, and additional visa requirements may apply depending on nationality.
Türkiye announces 3-year marriage rule for foreigners
Meanwhile, Legit.ng recently reported that Turkey requires foreign spouses to be married to a Turkish citizen for at least three years before they can apply for citizenship.
The government clarified that marriage alone does not automatically grant a foreign spouse Turkish citizenship or a passport.
