A property owner in Benin, Edo State, has expressed outrage over a recent incident of alleged land grabbing.

In a post shared via his official account, he admitted that the unexpected incident left him feeling frustrated and pained.

Man laments over land grabbing in Benin

The man, who owns a factory on Sapele Road, discovered that a stranger had begun constructing a building directly behind his fence, under a power line.

Identified as @Mcbrightboe on TikTok, he shared a video of the uncompleted structure, showing the alleged encroachment on his property.

According to him, the stranger had initially begun building on the fence without any objections from him, in the hope that the issue would be resolved amicably.

However, the situation escalated when the stranger extended the structure with blocks and threatened to take him to court.

The property owner is now appealing to the relevant authorities to intervene and address the matter, emphasising concerns over safety and property rights.

He showed the structure, which appeared to be situated in a precarious location, directly under a power line.

The property owner expressed anger at the alleged oppression and disregard for the law, lamenting the rising incidence of land grabbing in the area.

In his words:

"Benin and land grabbing na 5 and 6. The oppression in this Benin is something else o. Back of somebody's fence. Somebody came to the back of my factory and put a structure here. If you look at this structure very well, it's on the fence. We didn't say anything, we left it like that because we're peaceful people. Now he has extended it with blocks and he's saying he will take me to court. And this is under power line. They're putting a structure under power line behind my fence. Please the necessary authority should come and look at this. It's on Sapele road."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian man shared his pain on social media after finding out that some people were fighting over his piece of land.

According to the young man, he bought the land for N15 million only to discover that it was being dragged for N37 million.
