Eight years ago, Egold lost her then 5-year-old son, William, in a boat accident, which left her heartbroken.

William had died after the boat he was in went over a waterfall, WGME reported.

In an interview with the Portland Press Herald, Egold’s family friend, Martha Collins, spoke about the grieving mother’s state of mind and health.

Martha lived with Egold and her surviving son, Connor Bordeaux.

Despite losing her twin sons in the hit-and-run accident, Egold was also hospitalised after the accident left her bedridden.

According to Martha, Egold suffered two broken hips, broken hands, a broken leg, and has a piece of glass embedded in her spine from the accident.

Martha said:

“This whole thing is just a brutal nightmare. Emotionally, the best I can say is, she is doing as well as can be expected. It’s been a nightmare for all of us.
“She’s had emotional loss of the children plus the injuries, but she’s held up. Connor is really struggling. I don’t know how to describe it. We both say, ‘How do you wrap your head around what happened?'”
