Air India Crew Member Killed in Crash Emotionally Buried by Her Teenage Daughter

A cabin supervisor of Air India, Shradha Dhavan, was among those who died in the plane crash that claimed the lives of 241 people onboard.

An Air India plane, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, India, on June 12.

The aircraft crashed into the BJ Medical College and Hospital in Ahmedabad and exploded into flames.

The plane was headed for London’s Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom with 242 people on board, and only one survived the crash.

As reported by Hindustan Times, Shradha was the cabin supervisor on the ill-fated plane, and her body was brought home after days for burial.

Teenage daughter performs burial rites for mother

Shradha’s remains were brought to her family after four days of waiting. Her father, Madhav Dhavan, insisted that the coffin be taken to the flat that she had purchased.

A friend said:

“After four painful days, her remains returned to her loved ones, who had anxiously awaited news.”

Among the inconsolable family members was the 15-year-old daughter of the victim, who had virtually become numb.

It was reported that Shradha was not only her mother but also a friend who always stood next to her in her life.

Her brother Vivek, who had received her coffin in Ahmedabad, pulled out a piece of sari, worn by her during the crash and her nameplate, and kept it on the funeral pyre with tears rolling down his eyes.

Shradha's daughter, along with her father, took a brave step forward, performed the final rituals, before her mother's remains were cremated.

Many people could not hold back their tears the moment the teenager placed the coffin on the pyre.

Another crew member mourned by family

A senior cabin crew member of Air India, Aparna Mahadik, was aboard the Air India plane when it crashed into a medical college.

Following the crash, Aparna’s family struggled to come to terms with the loss and remained in disbelief.

Aparna's young daughter, who had not been briefed about the full details of the incident, shared the last words of her mother.

Teenage boy killed by Air India crash

In a related story on Legit.ng, a teenage boy, Akash Patni, who was resting near his family's tea stall, was tragically among those killed in the crash that shook Ahmedabad in India.

When the crash happened, the boy’s mother, Sita, who was unaware that her son was sleeping nearby, managed to run.

Akash’s mother, Sita, survived with injuries and is in the ICU, unaware that her son died just metres away.
