Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, is set to host a landmark celebration as former governor Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja becomes the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation will take place on Friday, September 26, at the historic Mapo Hall grounds with President Bola Tinubu confirmed to attend alongside prominent Yoruba monarchs, political leaders, business figures, and thousands of indigenes.

Ibadan prepares for grand Olubadan coronation
At a press conference on Saturday, Chief Bayo Oyero, chairman of the Planning and Organizing Committee, unveiled a detailed program of events scheduled to span an entire week.
The activities will begin on Monday, September 22, with an interdenominational service at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo and continue with a cultural fiesta on Tuesday at Olubadan Stadium, Iyaganku.
On Wednesday, Professor Toyin Falola will deliver a coronation lecture at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre.
Thursday has been set aside for a mega praise and worship concert at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape, which coincides with Oba Ladoja’s 81st birthday celebration.
The grand coronation ceremony will follow on Friday at Mapo Hall, while a thanksgiving service at the Catholic Cathedral, Oke Padre, will hold on Sunday, September 28. The celebrations will conclude with a special Jumat service at the Ojaba Central Mosque on Friday, October 3.
Chief Oyero described the coronation as a cultural milestone that extends beyond Ibadan, calling it a celebration of Yoruba heritage and African pride.
He noted that Oba Ladoja’s experience as a senator, engineer, businessman, and administrator uniquely prepares him to lead Ibadan into a new era of peace and progress.
Security tight for Ladoja’s royal ceremony
Security for the event will be tight. Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, announced that more than 2,000 operatives from the Police, Civil Defence, DSS, Amotekun Corps, and OYRTMA will be deployed across the city.

He added that the ceremonies will be broadcast live on state and national television and streamed on social media to reach Nigerians in the diaspora.
Governor Seyi Makinde was commended by the committee for providing financial and moral support to ensure a successful coronation.
The festivities will also feature performances by Fuji stars Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, and other Ibadan musicians, adding a vibrant musical touch to the historic occasion.
