Breaking: “8 Trapped Workers” Rescued Alive As Four-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos

  • Eight construction workers have cheated death after being pulled from the rubble of a building which collapsed in the Alagomeji area of Ebute Metta, Lagos

In what could be described as a huge relief, all eight male construction workers trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building at Alagomeji in the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos state have been rescued alive on Saturday, September 13.

Lagos rescue service shares video

The four-storey structure, which was under construction, caved in on Friday, September 12.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services confirmed this in a statement signed by its deputy comptroller, Olajide Ogabi, on Saturday, September 13.

As reported by The Punch, he noted that that three people were initially rescued shortly after the incident.

“The building collapse at 333 Borno Way, Alagomeji, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, has all relevant emergency responders including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service at the scene with three male adult victims already rescued alive while search and rescue continues for the remaining two construction workers still trapped in,” he stated.

Giving an update on the development on Saturday, he noted that the search-and-rescue operations had reached ground zero, with no further casualties reported.

“All reported trapped eight victims (all adults male construction workers) have been rescued alive as search and rescue reached ground zero while evacuation of rubbles continue,” he added.

As reported by Daily Trust, the rescued workers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, with reports indicating that they sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined, but authorities have promised to launch an investigation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that tragedy struck as a mud building collapsed in Zaria city, killing a mother of three, Habiba Nuhu, along with her two children and her grandchild, while they were asleep.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Wednesday, August 27, in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Bello Garba, Zone 1 coordinator, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency, is yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
