Kano Emir Sanusi Earns PhD in Law from UK University, Photos Trend

The Kano Emirate Council has congratulated the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on his recent conferment of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law by the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

Emir Sanusi’s doctoral thesis, titled “Codification of Islamic Family Law as an Instrument of Social Reform: A Case Study of the Emirate of Kano and Comparison with the Kingdom of Morocco,” reflects his lifelong dedication to scholarship, social reform, and service to humanity.
As reported by The Nation, the council described the milestone as a source of immense pride for the Emirate, the people of Kano, and Nigeria as a whole, adding that it reinforces the country’s reputation for producing visionary leaders rooted in knowledge and wisdom.
The Emirate also offered prayers for Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant the Emir continued health, guidance, and fulfilment in his service to society.

Meanwhile, photos of Sanusi's latest feat have surfaced on social media platform X as Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf, was spotted with the emir and other influential personalities to celebrate the historic milestone.

Sanusi completes PhD in London, gets emotional
Legit.ng earlier reported that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, in 2024, completed a doctorate in Islamic Law at the University of London, United Kingdom (UK).
In a heartwarming video, Sanusi could be seen getting emotional after he was told that his thesis was approved without any correction.
Sanusi started the PhD programme after he was deposed by the then governor of Kano, Abdullahi Ganduje, in 2020. He relocated to the UK to focus on it.

I knew what poverty is when I became Emir - Sanusi
In another development, Legit.ng reported that Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, stirred a fresh controversy in the polity as he speaks about economic hardship in Nigeria.
At an event in Abuja on Saturday, May 31, 2025, Sanusi II said he understood poverty when he became Kano emir .
The former CBN governor, who also stated that many elites in the country do not have an understanding of what poverty is, urged economic managers to inculcate the virtues of empathy.
