Ilorin, Kwara state - Ilorin-based Sheikh AbdulRasak Ibrahim Milo has come under fire following a viral video he made where he threatened violence against those criticising prominent Lagos-based cleric, Sheikh Habeeb Adam Al-Ilory.

Legit.ng reports that Sheikh Habeeb, the Murdir (leader) of popular Islamic school, Markaz Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies, Agege, had been accused of making dishonourable remarks about the companions of Prophet Muhammad, fondly called 'the Sahabahs'.

The cleric denied the allegation, but critics insist, over the years, Sheikh Habeeb has been making disparaging comments about the revered Sahabahs.

Amid heavy criticism of Sheikh Habeeb by several Muslim scholars and other faithful, Sheikh Milo, a protege of Habeeb, came out with a fiery Facebook Live on Sunday, August 24.

He said:

"Those of you attacking the Mudir because he abused the Sahabahs, it shall not be well with you."

The Sahabah refers to the companions of the Islamic prophet Muhammad; specifically, any Muslim who met Muhammad, believed in his prophethood, and died as a Muslim.

Legit.ng reports that they are highly esteemed in Islam as the "best generation" after the prophets and are considered crucial to the preservation and transmission of Islamic teachings and traditions. They played significant roles in early Islamic society, including battles, governance, and the establishment of religious institutions.

Sheikh Milo continued:

"If we see ourselves at public events, we will fight and spoil our lives, and the police will take all of us into custody. I am telling you the truth.
"It seems you people are mad. And some of you Ilorin-born people, let us meet ourselves, and let's see if your life will not spoil. Do you want to run mad? What is it? Should the Mudir stop breathing? You contributed to his present state, still you continue to bully him. Do you want to kill him? What really is the issue?

Yoruba Muslim scholars caution Mudir Markaz

Meanwhile, the Yoruba Muslim Scholars Association (YMSA) has urged Sheikh Habeeb to avoid what the group described as “disparaging remarks” about the revered companions of Prophet Muhammad.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, Oyo state, the president of the association, Khidr Mustafa, expressed concern over what he alleged were “baleful and unfounded statements” attributed to the cleric, Nigerian Tribune noted.

The statement partly reads:

“No Muslim of sound creed harbours doubt about the divine commendation of these noble men."
