In 1995, he founded Optima Sports Management International (OSMI), a trailblazing company that became one of Africa’s leading sports content providers.
Through OSMI, he distributed premium events such as the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, and CAF competitions to audiences in over 40 countries, Daily Trust reported.
“I am deeply honoured by this appointment and the confidence reposed in me by President Tinubu,” Pedro said.
He added:
“NTA is an iconic brand, and I am committed to leading it into a new era of relevance, innovation, and global competitiveness.”
Influential roles in global media
Pedro’s career includes leadership roles at Bloomberg Television Africa and Rapid Blue Format, as well as consultancy work for FIFA, UEFA, Fremantle Media, and the African Union of Broadcasters (AUB).
Notably, he played a key role in helping the AUB secure exclusive pan-African free-to-air media rights for all CAF competitions, a move that significantly expanded African audiences’ access to football.
Industry analyst Tunde Akinyemi, while speaking to Legit.ng on Friday, August 15, said:
“Pedro has a proven track record of creating commercially viable broadcast platforms. His understanding of the media landscape will be critical to reviving NTA’s fortunes.”
The Presidency described the changes as part of its wider agenda to reposition the NTA in a rapidly evolving and competitive media market.
Pedro’s appointment is seen as one of the most significant leadership changes at NTA in recent years, raising expectations of improved programming, increased revenue generation, and a stronger global presence for Nigeria’s national broadcaster.
