This was disclosed in a statement signed by the President of the group, Prince Maduka Ezeagu, as reported by The Nation.
According to the statement, the group noted that this revived bilateral partnership, encompassing counter-terrorism training, maritime collaboration, research and development, and defence sector investment, indicates a proactive government focused on lasting security reforms.
The group commends the four-day working visit of Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to India from August 11 to 14, 2025, stating that the visit marks the beginning of a new era in Nigeria’s international defence cooperation.
The group also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government for implementing a strong, practical foreign defence strategy prioritising capacity-building, tech transfer, and domestic production for national security.
The group further states that the meeting between Dr. Matawalle and India's Raksha Rajya Mantri, Shri Sanjay Seth, has created key opportunities for Nigeria to leverage India's established military expertise, ranging from manufacturing Light Combat Aircraft and Light Combat Helicopters to Offshore Patrol Vessels.
Ezeagu pointed out that with the Federal Government’s focus on revamping local defence manufacturing, this partnership could fast-track Nigeria’s self-reliance in defence technology within the next decade.
The NDMG further applauded Dr. Matawalle’s invitation to Indian defence companies to invest in Nigeria, saying that such initiatives would not only improve the nation’s defence capacity but also create jobs, enhance technical skills, and boost industrial growth.

Defence headquarters clarifies Bello Turji's alleged surrender
Legit.ng previously reported that the defence headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday, August 14, denied reports that notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, had surrendered to the military.
Legit.ng reports that Turji, a wanted terrorist operating mainly in Zamfara and Sokoto states, is accused of masterminding several attacks on communities in the north-west. Recently, there were reports that the bandit leader had surrendered and released 32 kidnap victims following a peace initiative brokered by Islamic clerics in Zamfara state.
List of Nigerian politicians accused of sponsoring terrorism
Legit.ng also reported on how Nigeria's insecurity challenges have spanned decades, particularly in the country's northern region. While the northeast is still in the grip of the Boko Haram terrorist group, the northwest is facing the menace of banditry and kidnapping.
As the security agencies continue to confront the national challenge, some northern political figures have been accused of being behind the insecurity in the northern region. The most recent accusation included a governor, senator and minister.
However, none of the allegations against the northern political bigwig have been substantiated by a standing court of law in Nigeria.
