Police Storm Shrine, Arrest Ritualist Making ‘Bulletproof’ Charms for Robbers

Uruan LGA, Akwa Ibom State - A suspected ritualist, Cletus Bassey, has been arrested by the police for making ‘bulletproof’ charms for robbers in Akwa Ibom State.
Police operatives recovered a firearm from the suspect in the Uruan local government area of the state.

The state police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Timfon John, said Bassey was apprehended on July 29, 2025, at about 7pm at his shrine located in Nung Oku Village.
As reported by The Punch, DSP John made this known in a statement issued on Friday, August 8, 2025, in Uyo, the state capital.
According to DSP John, preliminary investigations revealed that Bassey was allegedly involved in ritualistic activities.
The Police spokesperson added that the suspect also provides native charms and “bullet repellers” to armed robbers.
The statement read in part:
“On July 29, 2025, at approximately 18:51 hours, operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended one Cletus Effiong Bassey, a 30-year-old male, at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan LGA.
“Bassey is suspected of being involved in ritualistic activities, including providing native charms and ‘bullet repellers’ to armed robbers.
“A subsequent search of his compound led to the recovery of one fabricated single-barrel gun.”
DSP further disclosed that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
Man killed while testing anti-bullet charm
Recall that a 25-year-old man was killed by his friend in Benin, Edo state, while testing his new anti-bullet charms known as "Africa Insurance".
The victim of the incident, identified as Osamame Isekhuere (alias Black Arrow), asked his friend to shoot him because he was sure his newly acquired charm was effective enough to protect him.
The tragedy occurred at the Oba Market and immediately caused panic among the youths, with many traders having locked up their stores following the shooting.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that operatives of the Edo state police command arrested a teenage native doctor for killing his customer.
19-year-old self-acclaimed native doctor shot his client dead while testing bulletproof charm in Edo state.
The state Police spokesman, SP Moses Yamu, said the teenager would face prosecution as soon as the investigation is concluded.
