The Coca-Cola Foundation Bolsters Water Accessibility for Kunyami Community
The World Bank data and other related studies reveal that access to clean drinking water and sanitation remains a challenge for millions of Nigerians, with consequences such as diseases and economic strain. Tackling this issue is vital for achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3, 6, and 11, underscoring water's importance to human welfare.

Recognizing these challenges, governments and non-profit organizations have made substantial progress in aiding underprivileged communities and reducing the poverty impact. The Coca-Cola Foundation (TCCF) is one such organization championing change through its numerous philanthropic efforts implemented across the world, simultaneously driving partnerships that support a more sustainable world.
In response to this challenge, The Coca-Cola Foundation provided funding for Global Foundation for Hope Care and Development’s Project Kunyami in Abuja, Nigeria. This project supported the water needs of 2,000 Kunyami residents by installing two solar-powered boreholes in their community over a span of eight weeks. The upgraded infrastructure will supply 20,000 liters of clean, drinkable water each day, supported by two strategically positioned 5,000-capacity storage tanks.
Reflecting on the project, Saadia Madsbjerg, President, The Coca-Cola Foundation, emphasized the Foundation's dedication to providing sustainable, clean water access that enhances both the livelihood and well-being of communities while safeguarding them against water-related disasters.
“Water issues are a global challenge, but they are unique to the individual communities. That is why addressing these water challenges with local partners and perspectives is so important. We are grateful to have funded this water project supporting the 2,000 residents of Kunyami, and we look forward to replicating the success of Kunyami in other water stressed communities all over the world,” Madsbjerg explained.
By delivering solar-powered drinking water to over 2,000 Abuja residents while educating the community on sanitation, personal hygiene, and clean cooking practices, Project Kunyami seeks to ensure that underserved residents have access to vital resources like food, potable water, healthcare, education, and social activities.
