Against some contrary argument, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has clarified the issues surrounding his failure to visit Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos.

According to the former Anambra state governor, the monarch was not “readily available” when he wanted to pay a visit to the monarch’s palace.

Obi dismissed claims that he deliberately refused to visit the traditional ruler, adding that claims that Akiolu refused to see him were “untrue”, The Cable reports.

On Saturday, Obi visited some places in Lagos and held a rally at the Tafawa Balewa Square in Onikan, Lagos.

It is customary for presidential candidates to pay homage to first-class traditional rulers when they visit states to campaign, Channels TV added.

Here is what Obi said:

“The truth is that when we arrived, we wanted to do what we used to do — arrive, drive to the palace, and see the Oba.
“And we were told that he is not readily available and that we should apply and come at some other date. And that we intend to do because he remains a highly respected father to me and to the entire nation. There is no issue with that.”

Meanwhile, in what can described as a disturbing development, members of the Obidient Movement have reportedly been attacked by suspected hoodlums while on their way to the rally of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, in Lagos.

This was contained in a WhatsApp message sent by the spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Campaign Council, Tanko Yunusa, on Saturday, February 11.
