A New Map of Nigeria? Buhari's Govt To Begin Major Review

  • The 41-year-old map of Nigeria will have to be updated very soon, according to SGoF Abduganiyu Adebomehin

There is a need for the federal government to update Nigeria's 41-year-old map in order to reflect developments in many areas of the country.

This was the submission of acting Surveyor-General of the Federation (SGoF), Abduganiyu Adebomehin, when he defended the 2020 budget appropriation before the House Committee on Works and Housing recently, The Guardian reports.

Adebomehin stated that until the review is done, the government will continue to meet hitches in its efforts to make effective decisions, planning, and execution of people-oriented and developmental projects.

He lamented that inadequate funding has hindered the production of current topo-sheets, provision of a sufficientent Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) across Nigeria as maximisation of high-performance data centres.

He revealed that there would have to be a drone that could fly for a considerable period of time to generate data for a complete topo-sheet.

The acting SGoF expressed certainty with proper funding, the project could provide the necessary aid to boost the country’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Meanwhile, the personal assistant to the president on new media, Bashir Ahmad, had stated that neither the Nigerian government nor President Muhammadu Buhari submitted the change of name proposal to the House of Representatives.

Ahmad on Thursday, June 3, stated that the request was submitted to the lower legislative chamber by an individual or a group.

Legit.ng gathered that the presidential aide made the remark in reaction to reports that Buhari made the request.

According to him, a number of people had already taken it to their head, accusing the president of something he absolutely had no hand in.
