It was a troubling scene outside a Cape Town courthouse on Wednesday, 24 August 2026, as members of an anti-migrant group physically confronted beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina moments after she emerged from a deportation hearing.
Viral footage circulating on social media captured the tense and hostile atmosphere, with protesters chasing after Adetshina's car as she tried to leave the premises.

Adetshina Stands Her Ground
Legit.ng earlier reported that Adetshina, 25, has remained defiant about leaving the country.
In a chat with reporters, the beauty queen said: "I remind everyone that I was born in South Africa. I have applied through the proper legal channels to have my status and citizenship determined."
Adding to that, she noted that xenophobia and misinformation should not determine how people are going to be treated in SA.
Adetshina, whose mother has Mozambican roots and whose father is Nigerian, has been at the centre of a citizenship dispute since 2024, when questions about her eligibility arose during her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant.
She was subsequently stripped of her South African identity and travel documents following allegations that her mother, Anabela Rungo, had committed identity fraud to obtain South African nationality.
She left South Africa that same year and went on to win Miss Universe Nigeria after the organisers invited her to participate. She was arrested in June 2026 after allegedly re-entering South Africa unlawfully and was later released on warning.

Deportation Hearing Postponed to 2027
Legit.ng also reported that South Africa's Home Affairs department argued that Adetshina had applied for a South African visa from Nigeria and held Nigerian passports for herself and her son, suggesting she was not a South African citizen. Officials further alleged she re-entered the country illegally through a Mozambican border post.
Wednesday's hearing, which was meant to determine her detention, was postponed to February 2027 to allow for the finalisation of her legal review challenging the deportation order. Adetshina remains free until that process is complete.
The protest outside the court was spearheaded by anti-migrant group March and March, which has been vocal in demanding the removal of undocumented migrants from South Africa. Adetshina has consistently maintained that South Africa is her home and that she has been "treated unfairly and targeted" by authorities.
She said there had been "an attempt" to make an example of her, suggesting her case had become a symbol in a broader political battle over migration and identity in the country.
