Veteran Yoruba film actor Taiwo Hassan, widely celebrated under his screen name Ogogo, was laid to rest on Monday in Ilaro, Ogun state, as family, colleagues and fans gathered in a sombre farewell to one of Nollywood's most enduring figures.

The burial, conducted according to Islamic rites, took place a day after news of his death broke and sent shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Jide Kosoko, a fellow veteran actor and close associate, had earlier announced the burial arrangements, confirming that the late actor's remains would be conveyed to Ilaro for a lying-in-state before the final interment.

Footage circulating online captured the deeply emotional atmosphere at the ceremony, with mourners, including his daughters, visibly overcome with grief as his body was prepared for burial. Islamic prayers were chanted throughout the proceedings.

Among the industry names present were Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Ireti Osayemi, Faithia Williams, Saidi Balogun, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Fausat Balogun, Faithia Balogun, Mr Latin, Toyosi Adesanya, Abbey Lane, and Bisi Ibidapo, alongside residents of Ilaro and a large number of sympathisers who came to pay their last respects.

Ogogo's final days and legacy

The 66-year-old actor's death came only days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made a heartfelt public appeal for urgent medical intervention.

The two had revealed that their father was fighting stage-four cancer and that his doctors had advised against continuing chemotherapy due to how rapidly his health had declined.

The family had been actively exploring alternative treatment options when he passed.
