The Nollywood community is rallying around veteran actress Joke Silva as she mourns the passing of her elder brother, John Olabiyi Silva.

He died at the age of 72.

The actress confirmed the heartbreaking news on August 29, 2025, via Instagram, where she posted his picture alongside a tribute.

Joke Silva wrote on her Instagram:

"With acceptance of God’s Sovereign will …we announce the call to Glory of my dear brother John Olabiyi Silva …long John Silva…Bros B…Uncle B…. my easy go lucky brother. Rest in peace. January 22nd 1953-August 29th, 2025."

The veteran actress becomes the latest movie star to suffer a painful loss this week.

Similarly, another Yoruba actress, Joke Jigan, had lost her sister, Lizzy. She shared photos of herself and the deceased, questioning why death is everywhere as she contemplated logging off from social media. Mourning her sister, she told her to rest in peace.

Joke Silva celebrates Olu Jacobs at 83

In a recent post via her Instagram, she recounted meeting her husband when he was 38 and thanked God for his new age of 83.
