Sharing what transpired, May Edochie’s former lawyer said,

“Chima is the ex-husband of Angela Okafor, a Nigerian woman based in Atlanta. He had refused to take back the bride price he paid for Angela, which led DPA to take him to court where we returned the bride price. His lawyer threatened to appeal the court's judgment. While we were waiting for the appeal papers, he decided to take me to the shrine. The Chief Priest has now ordered me to appear before the shrine, which they refer to as dispute resolution."
