The minister had a series of engagements at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.
The engagements were deliberate steps to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda by anchoring Nigeria’s reforms in a broader global education movement.
Dr. Alausa’s first major engagement was a bilateral meeting with Namibian President, Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, alongside Nigeria’s Vice President, H.E. Kashim Shettima.”
The minister demonstrated that Nigeria’s education sector is not only reforming internally but also seeking continental synergies to strengthen Africa’s human capital base.
Reflecting on the session, the minister said:
“Our discussions reinforced the shared vision of Nigeria and Namibia in strengthening cooperation across education, knowledge exchange, and continental development. I remain committed to deepening these partnerships as we work together to build a stronger and more prosperous Africa.”
On the sidelines of UNGA, Dr. Alausa also joined Shettima in a strategic engagement with Mark Suzman, CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The meeting with the Gates Foundation symbolizes innovation meeting reform.
“Our discussions centred on strengthening partnerships to accelerate progress in Nigeria’s education sector, particularly around expanding access, improving learning outcomes, and ensuring that our reforms under the NESRI 6-point agenda deliver measurable impact for children and youth.”
He joined global leaders in reaffirming education as the central driver of stability and growth.
“For Nigeria, tackling out-of-school children, one of the world’s largest OOSC populations, is a cornerstone of our NESRI 6-point agenda. We are committed to expanding access, improving teacher training and welfare, promoting inclusive and safe schools, and leveraging technology for better learning outcomes.”

80th UN General Assembly: 10 key takeaways
Recall that the Presidency released the 10 key takeaways in Nigeria’s national statement at the 80th UN General Assembly.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, highlighted Nigeria’s national statement.

Tinubu directs Shettima to lead Nigeria's delegation
In a previous story, Legit.ng reported that Tinubu directed Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, held from 22–28 September 2025.
Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s national statement on 24 September and announce new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) at a UN climate summit.
The Vice President will also attend a housing roundtable, bilateral meetings, and later travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for talks with Deutsche Bank officials.
