Yaba, Lagos state - The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has revised the errors recorded in the recently released 2025 West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) results.
The pass rate in English language and Mathematics jumped to 62.9% following a review of the results released earlier in the week.

According to Vanguard, WAEC said 1,239,884 candidates have passed in both English language and Mathematics out of the 1,969,313 candidates who sat for the examination.
The Head of Nigeria’s Office (HNO) of WAEC, Amos Dangut, made this known on Friday, August 8, while briefing newsmen in Lagos.
Dangut admitted some lapses especially regarding the serialised questions in objective papers of some subjects.
“The Council, being an accountable, transparent and credible organisation, further investigated all the serialised papers (Mathematics, English Language, Biology and Economics Objective Papers) and discovered that a serialised code file was wrongly used in the printing of English Language Objective Tests (Paper 3), which resulted in them being scored with the wrong keys. Nevertheless, the schools that sat the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025, using the computer-based mode were not affected by this error.
“Consequently, the observable decline in the performance of candidates earlier announced was partly traceable to this absurd situation. The Council sincerely apologises for this imbroglio and deeply regrets the emotional and mental dismay it might have caused the affected candidates and all stakeholders. We have been able to fix the anomaly, and candidates can now access their results on the portal (www.waecdirect.org).
Legit.ng recalls that parents, teachers, the higher institutions’ student body, and other concerned persons in a series of online posts spoke out regarding the poor performance of candidates in the exam.

WAEC admits "technical issue" amid mass failure
Legit.ng earlier reported that WAEC informed the general public of technical issues about the 2025 WASSCE results.
WAEC said technical issues were discovered during the internal review of the recently released results.
The examination body apologised to affected students and advised candidates who have previously checked their results to re-check in the next 24 hours.
WAEC records worst performance in 5 years
