Brooks Koepka's parents: The support system behind the star

The golfer was born in West Palm Beach, Florida, United States, to Bob Koepka and Denise Jakows. His parents divorced when Brooks was young, but both remained influential in his life. Here is a closer look at his parents and the impact they have had on his journey and career.

Robert 'Bob' Koepka

Brooks Koepka's dad, Bob Koepka, grew up in Bridgeport, West Virginia, United States. He graduated in 1977 from Bridgeport High School. Bob was a multi-sport athlete in high school, competing in basketball, baseball, and wrestling.

Bob later attended West Virginia Wesleyan College, where he played as a pitcher. He only discovered golf after graduating, developing his game while working at Champion Lakes Golf Resort, owned by his uncle Dick Groat. Despite the late start and lack of formal instruction, Brooks’ dad became a highly skilled golfer.

Bob was instrumental in nurturing Brooks' early passion for golf. He often brought him along to hit balls, escorted him to tournaments, and supported him from the sidelines at club championships.

Bob has always celebrated his son’s victories. In 2017, he was delighted when Brooks won his first major championship at the U.S. Open in Erin Hills. The win came on Father’s Day, making it even more meaningful. Before the tournament, he had jokingly told Brooks:

Hey, do me a favor. I need a trophy for Father's Day. Do me a favor and bring one back.

While speaking with CBS12 after Brooks won the second major championship at the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills, Bob praised his son, saying:

When he's out there in those big moments, you just don't see any weakness. I think his mind is sometimes stronger than his game.

Following her divorce from Bob, Denise raised Brooks and his brother, Chase. In an interview with Newsday, she reflected on Brooks' personality, describing him as very low-key but full of surprises. Denise stated:

He is very low-key. But there are random things that happen throughout the year that are a ton of fun. He'll say, 'Oh, we're going on vacation.' And then we'll be on vacation. We don't necessarily follow calendar holidays, but there are Brooks' holidays nonetheless, and they are fun.

Brooks’ mom is a breast cancer survivor, having been diagnosed in 2011. In the same interview with Newsday, Denise shared that Brooks became her primary source of support, even leaving Florida State University to help care for her until his brother Chase later stepped in.

The golfer returned to competition on the Asian Tour/International Series in early 2025. He secured a place in the Korn Ferry Tour's Pinnade Bank Championship in Omaha through Monday qualifying, marking his first PGA Tour–affiliated start since 2022.

Chase shares a close bond with his brother Brooks. After the two teamed up at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in 2017, Brooks shared a playful reflection on their sibling relationship, saying:

We've definitely hurt each other's feelings before, nothing we haven't done. It's pretty relaxed. I'm pretty chill on the golf course. Nothing is really going to get to me. He might be in a few different spots than what he's used to—behind some trees and not in the fairway every time—but other than that, we should be all right.
