Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Murder A Family Of 7 In Manchok Village

Eatly Thursday morning, unknown armed men raided the Manchok settlement in Kaura local government area in the South of Kaduna State.

The unrest began at about 1 a.m. today at Manyi Akuru village, a suburb of Manchok town. A family of seven were slaughtered by the unidentified thugs suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

It is worth noting that Manchok, located about 200km South of Kaduna, the state capital, had  in recent time witnessed ethnic and communal clashes.

An eyewitness reports that the attackers invaded the township and killed seven persons, including a couple and their children. The thugs managed to escape before security agents stationed in the area arrived.

"They killed all seven members of the family and destroyed their homes before the security guys arrived there," a resident of the village reported. "The husband, wife and their children were killed."

He also added that the gunmen were believed to be "Fulani herdsmen who have been at loggerheads with other tribes such as the Bajju."

A security force said, "We were told that these killings were becoming routine. It is believed that today's attack is a reprisal. We learnt that some Fulani herdsmen were killed last week in the same village."

Although the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, Olufemi Adenaike, could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report, a local policeman confirmed the attack. He added that the death toll is likely to increase.

The incident forced Governor Muktar Yero to visit Manchok. While the Governor was addressing the youth and elders of the communities, another attack was allegedly launched against a nearby village where several people were said to have lost their lives.
