Buhari Hails World For Role In Nigeria’s Polls

General Muhammadu Buhari, the winner of the presidential election, has praised Italy and other members of the European Union (EU) for supporting Nigeria before and during the current polls.

The president-elect expressed his gratitude in comment by Garba Shehu, the director of media and publicity, All Progressives Congress presidential campaign organisation, in Abuja on Thursday, April 9.

Speaking with Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Fulvio Rustico, Buhari delivered a letter of congratulations from the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella.

It quoted Buhari as saying the EU and the U.S. played major roles in the polls.

He said: “I commend the EU nations and the U.S. for playing key roles in the stabilisation of Nigeria in this critically important and challenging period.

“I promise to pay attention to areas that will enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.’’

In the respond, the Italian President congratulated Buhari on his victory and praised Nigerians for the peaceful conduct of the polls.

It notedd that Italy was prepared to help Nigeria in managing domestic terrorism, drawing from their own experience with internal terror in the 1970s and 1980s.

Also, it said the Nigerian community in Oman had greeted Buhari’s victory in the presidential poll, defining the result as one that had brought happiness to everyone in their community.

In a congratulatory letter to Buhari Ben Emenyeonu, Chairman of the Nigerians in Oman, said, “the overwhelming mandate you received through the ballots speaks volumes about the magnitude of the trust Nigerians reposed in you.

“We believe your leadership will mark the beginning of an era in which safety, sanity and probity will make a return to governance and the general way of life in our dear nation.’’
