Crisis As PDP Suspends State Chairman Over Alleged Gross Misconduct, Announces Replacement

Benin City, Edo state - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its chairman in Edo state, Tony Aziegbemi for alleged gross misconduct.

According to The News, The Edo chapter of the party announced the suspension in a statement by its spokesperson, Chris Nehikhare, on Wednesday, June 2.

In addition to the allegation of gross misconduct, the PDP also accused Aziegbemi of causing unnecessary tension and disunity among its members.

The party said the decision to suspend the chairman was taken at the meeting of the state working committee, by two-thirds of the members.

The suspended chairman was replaced by his deputy

The Edo chapter stated that Harrison Omagbon, the state deputy chairman, will act in his place until the determination of the allegations levied against the suspended chairman.

It also disclosed that an investigative committee has been set up to probe the allegations against the chairman and report to the working committee of the party within one week.

The party said:

“It would be like ignoring the elephant in the room if we ignore this macabre dance as Edo people have watched in utter amazement and disappointment how Dr Tony Aziegbemi has been roped and entangled by his actions and unfortunately too, his inactions in the management of the affairs of the party.''

The Punch reported that the Edo PDP urged its members and supporters to remain calm while the investigation into the matter ensues.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, has reacted to reports claiming that he plans to defect from PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on June 12.

The governor said he has not yet taken a decision or fixed a date for defecting to the APC.

He also dismissed the claim that the dissolution of his cabinet was connected to his defection plans.
