S/West APC Meeting: Fayemi Opens Up on Why He Was Absent, Reveals His Stance on What Tinubu, Others, Discussed

Kayode Fayemi, the Ekiti state governor, says his absence from a meeting of leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the southwest region on Sunday, May 23, was a result of a mix up in the invitation sent out for it.

A statement by Fayemi's media aide, Yinka Oyebode, on Monday, May 24, said the invitation never got to the Ekiti state governor, The Punch reported.

Oyebode said the absence of an invitation for the meeting prevented his principal from attending as he was not aware.

He said Governor Fayemi was already scheduled to attend another engagement at the time he came to learn of the meeting.

The media aide, however, said Fayemi sent an apology to the meeting, The Nation also stated.

Fayemi backs APC leaders' stance

Though he was not present at the meeting, Governor Fayemi said he “wholeheartedly supports” the stance of APC leaders.

Legit.ng reported that southwest APC chieftains including Tinubu, Bisi Akande, Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and others met on Sunday in Lagos to discuss crucial national issues.

At the meeting, the leaders supported the open grazing ban, rejected the secession agitations, among others.

Akeredolu also absent

Meanwhile, Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has explained why he was also absent at the meeting.

Governor Akeredolu who said he supported the resolutions reached at the meeting attributed his absence to lack of timeous communication.

A statement by the governor's media aide noted that a slight mix-up and communication gap "caused his unintended absence even as an earlier engagement had been fixed for Ibadan weeks before the meeting."

In other news, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been warned against joining the ruling APC.

Liyel Imoke, the former governor of Cross River state issued the warning on Sunday, May 23, while speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar.

According to the former governor, APC is a political party that is collapsing, adding that it is not the best place to go for Cross River state.
