- However, Melaye in response to Bello's statement posted a tweet saying "Ignorance is free and only compound fools pay for it"
Senator Dino Melaye, a former federal lawmaker from Kogi state, has mocked Governor Yahaya Bello over his statement that all Nigerians want him to run for president in 2023.
The Kogi state governor whose second term tenure ends in 2023 had said on Channels TV on Friday, May 14, that his response to all those who wanted him to be president would be in the affirmative.
Channels TV quoted him as saying:
"All Nigerians are asking me to run for President in 2023. My answer will be in affirmative in a few time from now."
Governor Bello added that Nigerians, including women, youths and "very objective elites" believe he has the capacity to do the job and unify the country.
He reiterated that he would give a positive response regarding the alleged calls from Nigerians asking him to succeed President Buhari in 2023.
The Kogi state governor also assured those supporting him for the presidency that he would not disappoint them.
However, responding to Bello's statement on Twitter, Senator Melaye tweeted:
"Ignorance is free and only compound fools pay for it. Eyah Kogi State. SDM"
Legit.ng had previously reported that Senator Dino Melaye threw a jibe at Governor Bello, his political archrival, saying he cannot be Nigeria’s president.
Governor Bello is one of the Nigerian politicians who has been widely reported to be interested in succeeding President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
However, the former Kogi West senator took to Twitter on Saturday, April 17, saying Governor Bello "can only be the president of Agasa Development Union in Okene."
In another report, Senator Melaye and his group, the Anti Corruption Network on Wednesday, March 31, visited the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Abuja to submit more evidence of alleged corruption against Governor Bello.
In a tweet made by Melaye after the submission of the petition, the activist expressed satisfaction about the investigation by the EFCC.
"Anti Corruption Network team after adopting our petition at the EFCC HQ today. We submitted additional evidence against Yahaya Bello. We are satisfied with EFCC investigation so far. Alot has been achieved."
