- Father Mbaka was recently accused by the presidency of seeking compensation after supporting President Buhari in 2015
- The accusation came after the cleric asked the president to resign or be impeached over the state of the nation
- Nigerians have lent their voices to the discussion and some are standing with the man of God while others are against him
The spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry (AMEN), Father Mbaka, has been a trending topic following a recent revelation about him.
It all started when the fiery cleric called for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari if he fails to resign over the rising insecurity across the nation.
Mbaka who supported Buhari during the 2015 presidential elections made it very clear that he was not happy with the current administration as he accused the president of “maintaining grave silence” despite the widespread killings in Nigeria.
In a surprising twist, the presidency replied and opened a can of worms about the man of God.
Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson, in a statement via Facebook on Friday, April 30, claimed the cleric once demanded contracts as compensation for supporting Buhari two times to win the presidency.
According to Shehu, Buhari refused and that was why Mbaka made a u-turn and is now attacking the current government.
This revelation came as a surprise to some Nigerians. While some are of the opinion that the government is only trying the tarnish the image of the cleric, others have described Mbaka as a hustler.
Legit.ng has gathered some of the reactions of Nigerians to the Mbaka vs Buhari saga.
Nigerians share their opinion
As for a former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose, the cleric and the presidency do not deserve to be paid any attention.
Henry Shield said no slander against the cleric will be tolerated.
Sodiq said any attack on Mbaka is an attack on the south.
"Does the fact that Mbaka went to lobby contract take away the issue of insecurity? Is that why there is insecurity? Me that I’ve been calling on the President to tackle insecurity, how many contractors have I gone to Aso Rock with? Mbaka has already embarrassed himself, no need!"
"Ejike Mbaka: God told me to prophesy against President Buhari.
"APC to Mbaka: Do not forget that you're one of us. We know where your skeletons are. We will reveal them to Pope, Vatican & Nigerians. Sush!
"Most religious / political leaders in Nigeria are politically exposed."
"We may not like Father Mbaka but this gutter behavior of always blackmailing and hounding those who criticize the President by his aides is nauseating."
APC hits hard at Mbaka
Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned Mbaka against making statements that could cause instability in the country.
The party on Friday, April 30, in Abuja, threatened to expose the priest before the Vatican and Pope if he does not concentrate on his spiritual calling and desist from speaking like a politician.
