Manchester United striker Anthony Martial will likely miss the remainder of the season after the 25-year-old suffered a knee injury.

This was disclosed by the club manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who explained that the Frenchman got injured while he was away with the national team.

Martial was part of the France national football team that defeated Kazakhstan 2-0 in March.

And Solskjaer believes this huge setback could rule his frontman out for the rest of the season. The manager said in a chat with MUTV as cited in SunSport:

"Unfortunately, he sprained his knee with France. It’s always when they go away on internationals… you can keep your fingers crossed and hope they come back fit.

"Paul [Pogba] has played in all three games, 30, 60, 90 minutes, so that was a boost for us.
"Losing Anthony for what might be the rest of the season is very disappointing, especially when reports from there [France] was that it wasn’t anything serious but it looks a bad one."

Martial's potentially season-ending injury would cap off a frustrating campaign for the former Monaco man.

Meanwhile, Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly re-assessing his future at the club following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's latest snub.

Solskjaer appears to have put his faith in rival goalie Dean Henderson, having started him against Brighton at the weekend.

The Brighton appearance was Henderson's seventh in a row, with De Gea now yet to feature between the sticks for weeks.

Speaking on his choice of goalkeepers, Solskjaer insisted both shot-stoppers will be involved in the final stages of the season.

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer despite having a deal with the Catalans until the summer of 2022.
