Former United States President Donald Trump has reacted to his acquittal by the Senate late on Saturday, February 13.

Fox News reports that the immediate past American leader celebrated his second-time victory in a Senate trial.

He thanked all those who stood by him during the trial as well as his lawyers and millions of supporters.

After honouring his supporters and family, Trump attacked the trial, describing it as a political witch hunt.

He claimed that no other president in American history had been so maligned as he had by those politically opposed to his views and leadership style.

The former American leader hinted at a big political return in the months ahead, saying:

"Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun.
"In the months ahead I have much to share with you, and I look forward to continuing our incredible journey together to achieve American greatness for all of our people. There has never been anything like it!"

Trump's son, Donald Trump Jnr celebrated his father's victory with a tweet describing him as a champion.

Legit.ng reported earlier how the United States Senate on Saturday acquitted Trump of the numerous charges related to the ugly Capitol Hill riot.

Although the votes ended 57-43 against Trump, the Democrats did not get the two-thirds majority votes of 67 needed to find the former president guilty.
