Chief superintendent of police, 3 other senior officers dismissed

- No fewer than four senior police officers recently lost their jobs

Four senior officers have been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) over various forms of serious misconduct, Daily Trust reports.

This was revealed in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, head, press, and public relations of the Police Service Commission (PSC) on Sunday, December 20.

Ani explained that the decision was taken by the PSC at the 10th plenary meeting on Friday, December 18, presided over by its chairman, a retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Musiliu Smith.

According to the commission, all dismissed officers will be prosecuted for the following alleged discreditable conduct, dishonesty, acts unbecoming of a public officer, vandalising a transformer, and stealing.

The affected officers include a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), a Superintendent of Police (SP), a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that ten senior officers have been dismissed from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) while nine others were reduced in ranks over alleged misconduct.

PSC in a statement signed by the PSC head of press and public relations approved the dismissal and rank reduction of the policemen.

According to the body, severe punishment was also approved for eight officers for professional misconduct while light reprimand was also approved for ten officers.

Similarly, a 24-year-old police officer has been dismissed for stealing a phone and some cash belonging to a job applicant identified as Bolaji Ajiboye.

Following his dismissal, the suspect appeared before Osun state magistrate court in Osogbo.

Police prosecutor John Idoko said the defendant committed the offence on August 24, 2020, at about 8:30pm at Osun state command headquarters of Nigeria Police Force in Osogbo.
