2023: Politicians visit monarchs over reported Tinubu presidential ambition

- The discussion about a possible Bola Tinubu presidency in 2023 has again emerged

Some politicians in the southwest region have openly declared that they would back Bola Tinubu if he decides to contest for the 2023 presidency.

According to Daily Trust, the politicians who are former federal lawmakers made the statement in Oyo state during a visit to the palaces of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, and the Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Soliu Adetunji.

The group said their meeting was aimed at getting the support of the traditional rulers to back the reported presidential ambition of the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A former senator, Dayo Adeyeye, who led the politicians, said their visit a sensitization drive.

He claimed Bola Tinubu had not commissioned the group to support him for the presidency.

He said they decided to clamour for Tinubu’s presidency in 2023 because of his contributions to human development, Premium Times reported.

He said:

“The agenda of the group is to call out all well meaning South-Westerners to encourage, market and support the candidature of their Principal, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (the Jagaban Borgu) for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2023.
“Their goal is driven by desire for a common front to push the Yoruba Agenda for leadership of Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, a report by This Day stated that a new power bloc has emerged in the ruling APC ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

According to the report, the recent dissolution of states’ executive structures of the APC seemed like a hijack of the party structures and an indication that the battle for the 2023 elections would be stormy.

The report stated that the dissolved executive committees had their allegiance to the sacked APC national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and his dissolved National Working Committee (NWC).
