Winners and losers as APC, PDP battle for votes in state assembly by-elections (list)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted by-elections in some States Houses of Assembly on Saturday, December 5, across the country.

The seats were mainly contested by the ruling All Progressives Congress and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Legit.ng lists the winners and losers in the just-concluded elections in the state legislative houses.

1. Kosofe constituency II (Lagos)

APC - Femi Saheed (Winner)

PDP - Sikiru Alebiosu

Femi Saheed of the APC won the polls with 12,494 votes to beat PDP's Sikiru Alebiosu who got 2,068 votes.

2. Dass constituency (Bauchi)

APC - Bala Lukshi (Winner)

PDP - Lawal Wundi

Bala Lukshi of the APC was declared the winner after he polled 12,299 votes, defeating Lawal Wundi of the PDP who scored 11,062 votes.

3. Isi-Uzo state constituency (Enugu)

APC - Ejiofor Okwor

PDP - Amaka Ugwueze (Winner)

A female candidate, Amaka Ugwueze of the PDP, won the election, defeating her closest rival, Ejiofor Okwor of the APC.

4. Obudu constituency (Cross River)

APC - Abor Adaje Godwin

PDP - Maria Godwin Akwaji (Winner)

Maria Godwin Akwaji of the PDP was declared the winner of the poll by INEC on Sunday, December 6.

Akwaji claimed 32,166 votes, while her rival, Abor Adaje Godwin of the APC got just 3,546 votes.

5. Bakura constituency (Zamfara)

APC - Bello Dankande

PDP - Ibrahim Tukur (Winner)

The by-election was also conducted in Zamfara on Saturday, December 5, but it was declared inconclusive following the violence, over-voting, and ballot box snatching that marred the electoral process.

A supplementary election was subsequently conducted on Tuesday, December 8.

The commission eventually declared Ibrahim Tukur of the PDP winner of the election with 23,874 votes to defeat APC's Bello Dankande who scored 16,546 votes.

6. Ibaji constituency (Kogi)

APC - Egbunu Atule (Winner)

PDP - Daniel Enefola

The APC candidate, Egbunu Atule, won the election with 8,515 votes to defeat Daniel Enefola of the PDP who scored 4,565 votes, according to a report by Premium Times.

7. Bakori constituency (Katsina)

APC - Ibrahim Aminu (Winner)

PDP - Aminu Magaji

The APC candidate, Ibrahim Aminu, won with 20,445 votes to defeat his closest rival, Aminu Magaji of the PDP by 11,356 votes, Premium Times reported.

8. Bayo constituency (Borno)

APC - Maina Maigari (Winner)

PDP - Muhammed Danjuma

The APC candidate, Maina Maigari, won the election with 25,482 votes. He defeated Muhammed Danjuma of the PDP who polled 2,249 votes, according to the newspaper.

9. Nganzai constituency (Borno)

APC - Mohammed Gajiram (Winner)

PDP - Saleh Mohammed

The APC candidate, Mohammed Gajiram, won with 8,885 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, Saleh Mohammed, who got 240 votes.

In another report, the caretaker chairman of the APC in Lagos state, Tunde Balogun, has disclosed that the founding fathers of the party had an agreement in 2014 that the southwest geopolitical zone will produce the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Balogun made the disclosure on Saturday, December 12, adding that it would be dishonourable for the party to jettison the agreement now.

He added that President Muhammadu Buhari, the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and many other founding fathers of the ruling party entered into the agreement at the time.
