Buhari sacks director-general, National Directorate of Employment

The Nation is reporting that President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked the director-general, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Dr. Nasiru Mohammed Ladan Argungu.

According to the report, Dr Argungu was relieved of his post in a memo issued last week Friday, December 4, taking effect from Monday, December 7.

Also, the minister of state for labour and employment, Festus Keyamo, has been mandated to appoint an acting director-general from the senior directors of the agency to replace Argungu in acting capacity.

The news comes days after President Muhammadu Buhari approved the appointment of Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as the new director-general of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu and seen by Legit.ng on Tuesday, December 1.

A holder of BSc (Sociology), Masters of Arts (Management), and Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degrees, Mrs. Sulaiman-Ibrahim, hails from Nasarawa state.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have been commenting on the sack of the NDE boss.

James Michael wrote on Legit.ng Facebook page:

“We are at it again, we asked for the sack of the security chiefs, not the NDE director.”

Ojabe E wrote on Legit.ng Twitter page:

“Why not sack all the service chiefs? Their continued stay in office is dangerous to our internal security.”

Meanwhile, President Buhari has directed the disbursement of relief materials to families affected by the recent attack in Borno state which claimed the lives of 44 farmers.

The minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Sadiya Farouk, is saddled with the responsibility of carrying out the executive order.
