Nigeria's opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has responded to the claim by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Muhammadu Buhari that the ruling party made a clean sweep in the just concluded by-elections.

In a report by The Nation, the PDP on Monday, December 7, countered the claim in a statement issued by its spokesman Kola Ologbondiyan.

According to Ologbondiyan, the PDP won three out of the six senatorial by-elections held on Saturday, December 5.

Ologbondiyan added that since the president has demonstrated his preference for party politics above governance, he should take a crash course on party spokesmanship.

He explained that no well-meaning Nigerian can truly support such a corrupt party and incompetent government that has failed and betrayed the nation.

This is coming after the presidency said APC as a party has got the confidence of Nigerians and this has been shown by the recently held by-elections across the country.

The 'verdict' was given in a statement by Malam Garba Shehu, a senior aide to President Buhari on media and publicity.

In a statement he released in Abuja on Sunday, December 6, the presidential spokesperson said the APC is the party chosen by Nigerians.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the APC on Monday, December 7, said that its massive victory following the just-concluded by-elections shows that Nigerians accept the ruling party and its government.

Yekini Nabena, the APC deputy national publicity secretary made the disclosure in a statement shared on the party's website.

According to Nabena, APC's electoral victories in seven of the 11 states is a strong indication of President Muhammadu Buhari’s popularity among the people in spite of the warped narrative opposition tries to sell.
