Nigeria's technical adviser Gernot Rohr has called up Paul Onuachu as a replacement for injured Moses Simon for their AFCON 2022 qualifiers this month.

The Nantes forward became doubtful for the doubleheader after picking up a knock in his side's 3-0 defeat to Paris Saint Germain over the weekend.

He only lasted 25 minutes on the pitch before leaving the pitch for Kader Bamba for the remainder of the Ligue 1 cracker.

This has however forced the Super Eagles boss to make an early adjustment to his team by upgrading the Genk striker from the waiting list to the main squad. The Nigeria Football Federation announced on their verified Twitter handle:

"Super Eagles update: Paul Onuachu has been called up as a replacement for injured Simon Moses."

Onuachu made his debut for the three-time African kings in 2019 and has gone ahead to score just once in six appearances for them.

Meanwhile, the German-born tactician will be counting on the 26-year-old who has already scored 9 goals and one assist in 10 Belgian Premier League so far this campaign.

Onuachu's only goal for the Super Eagles came in the early minutes of Nigeria's friendly game against Egypt last year.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Super Eagles forward Moses Simon may have been ruled out of Nigeria's 2022 Africa Cup of Nations' qualifier against Sierra Leone later this month.
