The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 176 new cases of Covid-19 in Nigeria, taking the total to 55,632.
The new cases were recorded in 17 states with the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Plateau states taking the top chart.
With the new infections, Nigeria now has 55,632 confirmed cases, 43,610 recoveries and 1,070 deaths.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Polytechnic lecturers in Nigeria under the aegis of the Academic Staff of Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have warned the federal government against reopening tertiary institutions due to the coronavirus.
The union noted that there are no provisions to meet Covid-19 precautionary guidelines in universities, polytechnics and colleges of education if there is an outbreak of the virus on campus.
The president of ASUP, Anderson Ezeibe, made the position of the union known during an interview with Premium Times on Tuesday, September 8.
Similarly, the United Nations (UN) has called for the protection of students and teachers from continuous terrorist attacks amid ongoing efforts by the government to reopen schools during the Covid-19 crisis.
Edward Kallon, UN resident and humanitarian coordinator, made this call on Tuesday, September 8, in a statement marking the International Day to Protect Education from Attack 2020.
Also, amid the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)'s nationwide strike, the Nigerian government has said that during the Covid-19 pandemic it has spent N20 billion on health workers allowance.
Olorunnimbe Mamora, minister of state for health, made the disclosure while speaking on Channels Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily on Wednesday, September 9.
