Obaseki says Oshiomhole lacks respect for Edo people

Ahead of the Edo state governorship election, Governor Godwin Obaseki has scolded his predecessor Adams Oshiomhole over alleged disrespect for educated Edo people.

The Edo governorship election has been scheduled for September 19, pitching the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) against each other as tension mounts in the southeast state.

Speaking during his ward-to-ward campaign in Ikpoba-Okha local government area, Obaseki described the former APC national chairman as someone who had no plan as the governor of Edo state.

He also berated Oshiomhole for not showing respect for the people of Edo state as intrigues and blame game continue to highlight the Edo state election.

"Oshiomhole has no respect for Benin. Somebody you said was not good yesterday, you went to bring him to rule over us?

“Somebody that did not go school is asking for the Certificate of somebody that went to University.

“Even if we (Benin people) are fools, should you tell it to our face?”, he asked.

Governor Obaseki earlier threatened to unleash violence in full force should APC take to the rampage path.

The governor made this vow while addressing pressmen as the gubernatorial election in the south-south state draws closer.

Obaseki said he will not hesitate to deploy violence because "there is no monopoly of it."

Meanwhile, APC raised an alarm over what it termed as an unjust arrest of its member by suspected security officials on the order of Governor Obaseki

The ruling party gave the name of the arrested member as Abdul Ganiyu, adding that he was also assaulted over allegations levelled against him by some chieftains of the PDP.

In a statement by Mayaki, APC stated that Ganiyu, an engineer from Etsako East local government area, was brutally treated by security officials who acted based on the false information from the accusers.
