NIMASA executive directors sacked as Jamoh takes over

- President Buhari has reportedly sacked two executive directors at NIMASA and appointed three new ones

- This follows the alleged appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the agency's new director-general to replace Dakuku Peterside

- Peterside's tenure as the DG of the agency ends on Tuesday, March 10

Two executive directors at the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have reportedly been sacked following the alleged appointment of Bashir Jamoh as the agency's new director-general.

The Nation reports President Muhammadu Buhari sacked Rotimi Fasakin (Executive Director Operations) and Gambo Ahmed (Executive Director, Maritime Labour and Cabotage Services) and appointed three new ones.

The newspaper adds that its sources familiar with the matter said Victor Ochei, a former Delta speaker, will take over from Ahmed.

Legit.ng notes that the latest development follows the yet-to-be officially announced appointment of Jamoh to replace Dakuku Peterside as the DG of NIMASA.

Jamoh who is from Kaduna state was the executive director for admin and finance at NIMASA before the reported appointment.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said he was not aware of the alleged sack of Peterside and his replacement by Jamoh.

Amaechi noted that he would be aware as the transportation minister if Peterside had been truly sacked.

He added that he would be the one to formally intimate the DG if he is sacked, adding that President Buhari had not directed him to intimate Peterside of his sack.

His words: “I am not aware. As of yesterday when I spoke to the DG of NIMASA, he was in the office and they had a board meeting and he was present at the meeting. I am not aware that he has been removed. I spoke to him at about 3 pm to 4 pm. I should know if he has been sacked. If I am the minister of transportation, I should know."

The transportation minister, however, said President Buhari has the power to either replace him when his tenure ends or extend the tenure.

Peterside's tenure ends today, Tuesday, March 10.

In another report, Folashade Yemi-Esan was on Wednesday, March 4, sworn-in as the new head of federal service by President Buhari.

The swearing-in ceremony for Esan who took over from Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita was conducted just before the commencement of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The venue for the event was the executive council chamber of the State House, Abuja.
