Sagay’s committee endorses Magu's re-nomination as EFCC chairman

Sagay’s committee endorses Magu's re-nomination as EFCC chairman

- The Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) wants Ibrahim Magu renominated as chairman of the EFCC

- Sagay says the committee has already advised the government even as he described Magu as an uncompromising person

- The anti-corruption boss believes Magu has contributed immensely to EFCC and has the capacity to carry on as chairman of the foremost anti-graft body

Itse Sagay, chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), has endorsed Ibrahim Magu for consideration as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

For a long while now, Magu has worked in the capacity of an acting chairman of the commission after his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari was rejected three times by the eighth Senate.

Sagay urged Buhari to nominate Magu again describing the EFCC boss as courageous and uncompromising and because the position does not consider zoning.

Speaking during a meeting with Magu, Sagay said his committee had already advised the government but refused to give details.

He added: “When you see merit, when you see dedication, when you see courage, when you see somebody that is indefatigable and who has identified with no corruption, I think it is stupid to say you are looking for something outside.

“Absolutely stupid because this is not a turn by turn thing, it is a thing of merit. You must deserve it and work for it and achieve it.”

He said the belief of PACAC is that Magu possesses the capacity to be the substantive chairman of the anti-graft agency.

“He is an uncompromising person as far as corruption is concerned. No one now will have the courage to say or try and offer him anything because they know the result will be a disaster,” he added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Sagay confirmed the arrest of Mohammed Adoke, Nigeria's former minister of justice, in Dubai.

Sagay said the arrest of Adoke by the International Crime Police Organisation (INTERPOL) is part of efforts by the government of Muhammadu Buhari to rid the country of corruption.
