2023 presidency: Ohanaeze youths urge Igbo govs to dump PDP for APC

- Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide says it is in search of at least two south east governors and some senators that would willingly defect from PDP to APC

- The group said on Saturday, October 26 that it believes re-arranging the political structure in the southeast would boost chances of an Igbo president emerging at the centre in 2023

- Ohanaeze youths said in order to achieve this Igbo presidency goal, it has set plans in motion to make possible the defections it desired

Southeast governors and senators have been urged to defect from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress as moves for the actualization of Igbo presidency in 2023 warm up.

Vanguard reports that members of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide made the call on Saturday, October 26 in a statement jointly signed by the group's president-general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro and secretary-general, Okwu Nnabuike.

According to them, the youth group sort the willing defection to APC of at least two southeast governors and some key senators.

The youth group said it is looking at changing the traditional tight hold of PDP and the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the southeast by orchestrating defections to APC.

“At least with three South East PDP Governors and two South East APC Governors before first quarter of 2021, Igbo stand a chance for presidency, " the group reasoned.

The youths say they are not just making the calls, but they have also started the process of ensuring that this is done.

According to them, talks are already ongoing with power brokers in the region to make the defections a reality in order to improve the southeast's chance of an Igbo presidency in 2023.

Legit.ng notes that the statement by the Ohanaeze youths came weeks after we reported that a leader of the pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo, advocated for an Igbo presidency in 2023.

Adebanjo said, on Thursday, October 3, that the country cannot claimed to be united if this is not achieved.

He noted that for the sake of the country’s unity, an Igbo person should be made president in 2023.
