A Federal High Court in Abuja has been asked by a governorship aspirant, Natasha Akpoti, to disqualify Governor Yahaya Bello as a candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Kogi state.
Akpoti accused the Kogi state governor of double registration as a voter.
The suit was filed on Monday, October 14, by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), on behalf of his client (Akpoti).
Akpoti, who is the governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SD), alleged that the governor first registered as a voter in Abuja in 2011 and procured the second voter registration in Lokoja, Kogi state, in May 2017.
She also asked the court to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to “thoroughly investigate the act of double registration” and “to immediately prosecute him upon the expiration of his first tenure of office as governor of Kogi state in January 2020”.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng gathers that the Governorship Campaign Council of the Kogi state All Progressives Congress (APC) said it was confident of Governor Yahaya Bello's success in the forthcoming election in the state.
Kingsley Fanwo who is the chairman of the media and publicity of the campaign council stated this in Lokoja.
According to Fanwo, the APC has increased support of the people of the state and key personalities which would aid the governor's bid for reelection.
He boasted that only Governor Bello could defeat himself in the forthcoming election, adding that the coming back of the aspirants who contested against the governor during the primaries had massively boosted the APC's chances.
Fanwo mocked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the party had lost its leaders and thousands of supporters to APC.
He said the PDP had also lost its only senator, Dino Melaye, adding that Senator Smart Adeyemi would soon replace him at the Senate.
