El-Rufai: Kaduna traders pray against governor's market expansion plan

- Traders in Kaduna have kicked against Governor Nasir el-Rufai's plan to expand market across local government areas in the state

- Governor el-Rufai had proposed to expand markets in areas of the state like Igabi, Zonkwa, Kafanchan and Zaria

- The traders said that the plan is wickedness on the state government's part because they are not sure any provision will be made for them when their shops are eventually demolished

The proposed expansion of markets by Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna to be carried out in Rigasa, Igabi local government area, Zonkwa, Kafanchan and Zaria has been vehemently rejected by traders in the state.

The traders have kicked against Governor el-Rufai's plan by taking the issue to God in prayer, insisting that they are not sure any provision will be made for them when their shops are demolished in the course of the planned expansion, Daily Trust reports.

One of the traders to be affected by the plan, Sani Muhammad, a tailor, in Kasuwar Barchi market, informed journalists that he and his colleagues are still praying to God against the move.

Muhammad said: “There were special prayers against the plan because many of us are worried about the expansion. We are worried due to lack of an alternative for traders if the expansion begins.”

Another trader, Jafaru Madobi, said: “This to us is wickedness because as I speak we are all worried and confused. We all know that by the time the market is demolished many of us will not be given another shop. For me what we need is capital from the governor, not market expansion.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that El-Rufai had described Nigeria as two countries in one, saying while the south is developing, the north had remained backward.
