Legit Poll: Nigerians debate who conducts the best election between Jega and Yakubu

Shortly after the 2019 presidential election, Nigerians across all divides have continued to compare the performances of the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Chairman (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, and the current chairman, Mahmood Yakubu.

Legit.ng in a Twitter poll asked Nigerians on the social media platform whom they think conducted the best election between the current INEC chairman and his immediate predecessor.

In the poll, 75% of the respondents believe the former INEC boss Jega did a better job while 25% believe that the current INEC boss conducted the best election.

Meanwhile, there are several reactions expressing divergent opinions trailing the poll.

@akanoodunayo10 believed Jega conducted the best election, though with some lapses.

@george_Izere also believed Jega did a better job.

@BabaTOlanguage, in his opinion, said they both conducted good elections "but Jega sets the pace".

@hon_dakurum also believed both Jega and Yakubu conducted the best elections.

In her own view, @Bebeimmy35 said the two did not conduct the best elections in the country, alleging that "people feel Jega was better because the people's choice won".

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Kimpact Development Initiatives (KDI), an NGO, urged INEC to address some of the lapses encountered during the February 23 presidential and National Assembly elections.

Bukola Idowu, the executive director, KDI, and coordinator, southwest Hub of Nigerian Election Violence Report (NEVR) made this known in an interview on Monday, March 4, in Osogbo.

Idowu, who was speaking ahead of the March 9 Governorship and National Assembly elections, said:“Despite INEC’s success in conducting the presidential and national assembly elections, the late arrival of sensitive materials to polling units remains one of the challenges that must be tackled in the coming gubernatorial election.”
