Obiano won’t contest 2019 presidential election - APGA chairman

- Governor Obiano of Anambra state will not be contesting against President Buhari in 2019 presidential election

- APGA chairman, Victor Oye, said recent reports linking Obiano to 2019 presidential campaign were a well-orchestrated design to pitch him against his admirers

- Oye said the party supports Buhari because of the urgent need to work collectively to heal the wounds of the nation

The national chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Dr Victor Oye, has said debunked reports that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state will contest the 2019 presidential election.

He said the reports were not only fallacious, but also a well-orchestrated design to pitch him against his admirers and scuttle his administration, Daily Trust reports.

Oye stated that the Anambra state governor is not contesting the 2019 presidential poll because the party is targeting to win the remaining southeast states.

According to him, Obiano at no time told anybody, dead or alive, that he intends to run for the presidency.

He added that as the national chairman of APGA, he was in position to know about such an ambition before it would be made public.

Oye said the party’s support for President Muhammadu Buhari was because of the urgent need to work collectively to heal the wounds of the nation and build an egalitarian and just society for the present and future generations.

The APGA national chairman also denied reports which quoted Governor Obiano as saying other governors from the southeast states would fail in 2019 if they did not join APGA.

That is ridiculous. The governor holds his colleagues and, indeed, any other person for that matter in high esteem. For the whole period I have known the governor he has never been associated with vainglory, undignified utterances or uncouth words,” he said.

Oye called on President Buhari to reimburse the N43 billion spent on repairing some major federal roads and arresting erosion menace at strategic places in Anambra state.

Recall that earlier report had it that Governor Willie Obiano described his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, as the ‘Southeast hurricane’.

The governor made his comments at an event tagged ‘Victory Rally/Commencement of Anambra Central Senatorial District Rerun Campaign’, which held in Awka, the state capital, on Thursday, December 14.

It was gathered that Obiano asked governors in the southeast to join APGA, if they wanted to win re-election in 2019.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that APGA said that it will present a presidential candidate for the 2019 elections and will not make the same mistake it made in 2015.

The party did not field a presidential candidate for the 2015 presidential election and there were reports that this was because of its alleged alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party to support its candidate.
