Nigerian Man Faces Deportation from US as Immigration Arrests Him, His Offence Disclosed

A Nigerian national previously convicted of sexual offenses against a Maryland minor has been arrested in Lanham by Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Baltimore.
The 37-year-old was taken into custody on August 2 by deportation officers from ERO’s Criminal Apprehension Program outside his residence.

Arrested Nigerian a frequent law breaker - ERO
According to officials, the man had been convicted of second-degree rape and a third-degree sex offense against a Maryland child. His record also includes multiple arrests and charges over a span of several years involving the same victim and later another woman.
“This Nigerian national was arrested for rape and later released only to commit another sexual crime against the same victim,” said ERO Baltimore acting Field Office Director Darius Reeves.
“The noncitizen used despicable predatory tactics to victimize and later re-victimize a Maryland child. ERO Baltimore takes our commitment to our Maryland communities very seriously, and we will relentlessly pursue such offenders who intend harm to our residents.”
Nigerian convicted of rape charges
The man entered the United States legally as a nonimmigrant in July 2015 but later violated the conditions of his stay. He was first arrested by the Prince George’s County Police Department in December 2017 on charges of first- and second-degree rape.

In February 2019, he was again arrested and charged with third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, and fourth-degree sex offense involving the same minor.
The Circuit Court for Prince George’s County convicted him of second-degree rape and third-degree sex offense.
He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 15 years suspended and five years of supervised probation for rape. For the third-degree sex offense, he was given 10 years suspended and an additional five years of probation.
US Police arrest him again
In September 2021, Prince George’s County Police arrested him once more, this time on charges involving another woman.
However, in March 2022, the court placed those charges on a “stet” docket, meaning the case was inactive but could be revived if he failed to meet certain conditions.
ERO Baltimore has now placed the Nigerian citizen in custody pending removal proceedings. He has been served paperwork to appear before an immigration judge, who will decide the outcome of his case.
Immigration courts, which are part of the Department of Justice and independent of the Department of Homeland Security, handle such hearings.
Officials explained that if a final removal order is issued, ICE officers will oversee his deportation in line with federal law.
ERO, one of ICE’s three operational arms, leads the effort to arrest, detain, and repatriate noncitizens who pose threats to community safety and violate U.S. immigration laws.
List of African immigrants scheduled for deportation from US
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the United States government had released updated data revealing that tens of thousands of African immigrants are currently listed for deportation.
The figures, current as of November 24, 2024, highlight the growing focus on immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, with nationals from Somalia, Mauritania, and Nigeria topping the list.
