The case was filed against US commentator Candace Owens, who has repeated claims that Mrs Macron was born male.

Owens, a right-wing media personality with a big online audience, has asked the judge to dismiss it.

Their lawyer, Tom Clare, confirmed to the BBC’s Fame Under Fire podcast that the couple intends to put forward evidence that will counter the allegations.

“It is incredibly upsetting to think that you have to go and subject yourself, to put this type of proof forward,” Clare said.

“It is a process that she will have to subject herself to in a very public way. But she’s willing to do it. She is firmly resolved to do what it takes to set the record straight.”

Clare added there would be “expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature.” While he did not disclose the full details, he said the Macrons are prepared to prove the allegations false “both generically and specifically.”

He also acknowledged the toll the claims have taken on the French leader:

“Just like anybody who is juggling a career and a family life as well, when your family is under attack, it wears on you. And he’s not immune from that because he’s the president of a country.”

Macrons sue Owens over false online claims

The case against Owens comes after years of online rumors, including a 2021 video by French bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey. The Macrons had won a defamation case against them in 2024, but it was overturned in 2025 on free speech grounds. They are now appealing that decision.

In July 2025, Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron filed a lawsuit against Owens in the United States. The court documents say Owens ignored clear evidence showing her claim was false and instead shared information from known conspiracy theorists.

The filing adds: “These claims are demonstrably false, and Owens knew they were false when she published them. Yet, she published them anyway. And the reason is clear: it is not the pursuit of truth, but the pursuit of fame.”

Emmanuel Macron said the lawsuit was needed to protect his and his wife’s reputation. He said the claims were false and made on purpose to cause harm, linked to far-right groups.

Owens has argued that the case should not be heard in Delaware, saying it does not relate to her businesses there and would cause “substantial financial and operational hardship.” She has previously said she believes she is telling the truth and defended her remarks as an exercise of free speech.

Macron reflects on time working in Nigeria

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that French President Emmanuel Macron worked as an intern at the French Embassy in Abuja. He spent several months in Nigeria, which gave him a close look at life and culture in the country.

In 2024, Macron used Pidgin English in a social media post while talking with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The short, friendly message showed respect and the connection between the two countries.
