Opta’s supercomputer has updated its prediction for the chances of winning the Premier League title between Arsenal and Manchester City after matchweek 36.

Manchester City defeated Brentford 3-0 at the Etihad on Saturday, May 9, 2026, to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table to two points.

The Gunners responded with a massive 1-0 win over West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday, May 10, 2026, to regain their five-point advantage.

The win over West Ham was controversial after the video assistant referee (VAR) disallowed the Hammers’ 95th-minute equaliser, which could have changed the outcome.

Supercomputer predicts Premier League winner

According to The Analyst, Opta’s supercomputer updated its prediction for the chances of winning the Premier League title between Arsenal and Manchester City.

Arsenal reclaimed their advantage in the title race and had their chances of winning boosted by 8% up to 87% after the win over West Ham.

Manchester City’s chances expectedly dropped to 13% after Arsenal’s win, as both teams continue fighting for the title until the final match.

Arsenal, City and Manchester United have qualified for the UEFA Champions League next season, while Liverpool and Aston Villa are predicted to join them.

The Premier League’s sixth-placed team, which at this moment is Bournemouth, can qualify for the UCL next season if Aston Villa finish fifth and win the UEFA Europa League.

Nottingham Forest and Leeds United survived dropping down to the Championship after West Ham’s loss, leaving the Hammers and Tottenham in the fight for the last relegation slot.

Arteta reacts to Arsenal’s win

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his team’s amazing week and claimed that the wins give them the energy to approach the remaining matches in the right way.

“Amazing. I feel so happy, so proud. Relieved as well, because we knew the difficulty of the game, but we've done it. It's been a phenomenal week in every sense,” he said as quoted by Arsenal.com.

“What the team has done, the way we've played, the way we have approached games. What our supporters have done for us this season, all week and today as well. It's phenomenal.
“I think it changes the energy of the team, and we have to live in the present now and just think about Burnley because that's the only important thing.”

The manager singled out David Raya for praise for his “magical” saves that helped the team, and also match-winner Leandro Trosaard for the crucial goal.
