How Many Points Arsenal Need To Win First Premier League in 22 Years After Victory Over West Ham

  • Arsenal moved closer to a first Premier League title in 22 years after defeating West Ham 1-0 at the London Stadium
  • Mikel Arteta’s side now need just four more points to guarantee the championship regardless of Manchester City’s results
  • Manchester City can still retain the title, but only if Arsenal drop points in their remaining two matches

Arsenal are now within touching distance of ending their 22-year wait for a Premier League title after grinding out a crucial 1-0 victory against West Ham on Sunday, May 10.

Leandro Trossard emerged as the hero at the London Stadium with a late deflected strike that finally broke the deadlock after a tense and frustrating encounter for Mikel Arteta’s side.

The result came less than 24 hours after Manchester City kept their title hopes alive with a commanding 3-0 victory over Brentford.

Pep Guardiola’s side remain firmly in the race, but Arsenal’s response means the Gunners still hold a valuable five-point advantage at the top of the table, albeit having played one more match.

With the title now firmly in Arsenal’s hands, fans across North London are beginning to believe the long wait for Premier League glory could finally be over.

How many points do Arsenal still need?

Following the victory over West Ham, Arsenal now require just four points from their remaining matches to mathematically secure the Premier League crown.

As seen on the Premier League table, Manchester City’s maximum possible tally is now 83 points, meaning Arsenal only need to match or surpass that total to become champions.

As things stand, one win and one draw from their final fixtures would almost certainly be enough, especially considering Arsenal’s superior goal difference.

The Gunners’ remaining schedule includes a home clash against Burnley before finishing the season away at Crystal Palace.

Supercomputer predicts Premier League winner as Man City beat Brentford to put pressure on Arsenal

If Arsenal win both games, the title race instantly becomes irrelevant regardless of what Manchester City achieve.

However, even a combination of one victory and one draw would likely be enough to seal a first league win since Arsene Wenger’s famous Invincibles side lifted the trophy in 2004.

The growing belief around the Emirates Stadium is understandable, as after years of rebuilding, near-misses, and criticism, Arteta’s side are now closer than ever to completing one of the club’s greatest modern achievements.

When can Arsenal officially become champions?

Arsenal could officially clinch the Premier League title before the final day if Manchester City slip up in midweek.

Man City face Crystal Palace on Wednesday, and any dropped points in that match would significantly increase Arsenal’s advantage.

If Guardiola’s men draw against Palace, Arsenal would then need only a victory against Burnley on May 18 to secure the championship with a game still remaining.

That scenario would leave Arsenal seven points clear with just six points left available for Manchester City.

However, if Man City continue winning, the title race could go down to the final day of the season.

In that case, Arsenal would travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace while Manchester City take on Aston Villa in a repeat of the dramatic final day from 2022.

Despite Man City’s relentless pressure, Arsenal remain in complete control.

For Manchester City to retain their Premier League crown, Arsenal must stumble.

And after surviving another difficult away test at West Ham, the Gunners look increasingly determined to finish the job and finally bring the Premier League trophy back to North London.
