Ndidi Sets Personal Target for World Cup Qualifiers As Nigeria Awaits FIFA Decision

Wilfred Ndidi said his main target is to see the Super Eagles feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The former Leicester City star played a prominent role in Nigeria's CAF qualification series.
The 28-year-old captained the Super Eagles during their home match against Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo before William Troost-Ekong came in as a substitute.

The midfielder led the charge in Nigeria's 1-1 draw against Bafana Bafana at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein but sustained an injury during the match.
Besiktas confirmed that Wilfred Ndidi sustained a thigh injury, but the timeline of recovery has not been stated.
The Nigeria Football Federation had complained about the state of the stadium, but examples were cited as the pitch hosted the game between South Africa and Lesotho.
What did Ndidi say?
Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi said he's ready to fight for the country to make it to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to RG, the 29-year-old explained that Nigeria is also focused on surpassing its previous position at the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The FA Cup winner noted that his priority is to remain in top form to help Nigeria anytime he's called upon. He said:
“We have a lot of competitions to fight for in Besiktas and for Nigeria, there is the World Cup qualifiers which is our main target at this very point, and the Africa Cup of Nations in December.”
“Just like every other player, I want to be in top form to be able to help my club and country anytime.”
Ndidi featured for Nigeria during the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where the Super Eagles finished third with three points.

A new challenge - Ndidi
Wilfred Ndidi joined Besiktas from Leicester City after spending eight years in the English Premier League.
The Nigerian international admitted that the move to the Turkish Super Lig on the deadline was a difficult one.
He applauded the fans of Besiktas for their warm reception in Istanbul, promising to give his best to the club, per Leadership. He wrote:
“I love Leicester City, it still remains home to me because I won three major trophies but the Besiktas offer came as a new challenge for me.
“The fans have been welcoming, and we are determined to make them happy with results. The team is getting better, and we have a common goal.”
Ndidi gifts former coach a car
Legit.ng earlier reported that Wilfred Ndidi has shown his generous side by gifting his former grassroots coach and Nigerian football legend, Nduka Ugbade, a new car.
Ndidi began his football career in Nigeria before moving to Europe with KRC Genk in 2015, from where he moved to Premier League club Leicester City in 2017.
